Learning AI together across cultures

What happens when young minds from Japan and Finland meet future skills education in Oulu?

At our Future Skills Camp, students from Ritsumeikan High School (Kyoto, Japan) and local students from Oulu came together for a week of hands-on learning, cultural exchange—and a lot of creative problem-solving, coding and AI.

Finnish and Japanese students working together to solve problems.

Through AI project work, teamwork challenges, and plenty of “aha!” moments, these students didn’t just learn about technology. They practiced resilience, learned to collaborate, and found joy in solving problems together. As one student said:

“Sometimes we struggled, but we always found a way through. It was rewarding to finally crack the code!”

This was our fourth year hosting the Ritsumeikan group, and once again, it was inspiring to watch how fast students grew in confidence. Many said they no longer felt intimidated by programming or AI—instead, they were eager to keep learning.

Happy students on the camp.

“This camp showed me that coding isn’t just about computers—it’s about creativity, teamwork, and thinking outside the box.”

We’re proud of the meaningful progress made during this camp. Not just in skills, but in mindset. Because when learning is immersive and peer-driven, students become creators—not just users—of technology.

And yes, we kept up the beloved tradition of sharing Japanese sweets (wasabi-flavored ones included).

Let’s keep building future-ready learners, one project at a time.
