1. Electronically distributable homework assignments for students

The following print-outs and tasks are from Code School Finland’s student books. Distribute the PDFs to your students with a request to submit their responses electronically via email or your LMS.

What is programming?  A short intro for everyone. Suitable from grade 1 onwards. Download here: student material

What are Artificial Intelligence and algorithms? Read, think, draw and program in Scratch.  Suitable for grades 4-9. Download here: student material

What are robots and embedded systems? Read, think, write and draw. Suitable for grades 4-9. Download here: student material

2. Online coding exercises for students

While students are working at home with their computers or laptops, they can try the following online exercises and games on their own:

Lightbot Hour of Code (requires Flash). Suitable for grades 3-9.

Star Wars game at Code.org Suitable for grades 4-9. Ask students to follow the game and take a screenshot/picture of the Certificate of Completion.

Bee at Code.org Suitable for grades 4-9.

3. Self-study materials for teacher competence development

Introduction to teaching robotics

This self-study material for teachers provides an introduction to the essential terms and concepts of robotics and automation, and covers the role of robotics in manufacturing and our everyday life both now and in the future. Suitable for teachers for all grades.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

This educational self-study material is inteded for teachers of all grades, who are interested in the history, development, nature and applicability of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The purpose of the material is to introduce AI and its central concepts in such a manner that the learner can have well-reasoned in-depth discussions and study to find out more.
