Making AI a career choice for more women
It’s important to bridge the gender gap in AI and technology fields. Diverse teams that also include women bring unique perspectives to the field of AI, leading to more comprehensive and innovative solutions. Having diverse teams ensures that AI technologies are developed with consideration for a wider range of users and societal needs. A diverse team has a better chance of identifying and mitigating algorithmic biases, leading to fairer and more inclusive technologies for all of us.
By the way, at Code School Finland, gender equality is exemplified by our perfect 50/50 gender split in the team. Furthermore, we have a female CEO and our Board of Directors is predominantly female!
Supporting teenagers to become AI literate
This week our head trainer Sirkku Tahvanainen was invited to speak in the AI Awareness Week for 9th graders in Laanila school in Oulu. She spoke about AI literacy which is of course important for all genders. AI literacy means the knowledge and skills to understand, use, and interact with AI responsibly and effectively. It’s about enabling people to make informed decisions about AI technologies and deal with the moral questions they raise. Check out our full AI literacy definition here.
The students also discussed the future of AI, the basics of telecommunications, and the ethical implications of AI, exploring both its positive and negative impacts. “AI sounds both exciting and kind of scary”, commented one 9th grader. Students showed a mix of curiosity and critical thinking, which indeed are perfect attitudes towards AI.
We are thankful for the chance to take part in this well organised event and look forward to more collaboration around AI education in the future.
