Digital skills for academic excellence: Kannemeyer Primary School

March 27, 2023, Code School Finland

Another South African school is adopting Teachease to enable its teachers to teach a well-rounded digital curriculum for primary school children

πŸŒ… About Kannemeyer

Kannemeyer Primary School is a public primary school in the south of Cape Town. It has over 620 students from preschool to grade 7. Founded in 1956, the school has a long and proud history of providing quality education to children from the local community and beyond.

With strong emphasis on academic excellence, Kannemeyer has consistently produced outstanding results in various academic fields and sporting competitions. The dedicated staff and teachers are highly committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for their students, making sure they receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in life.

πŸ“’ Beginning of the Teachease journey

Teachease fits perfectly in this picture. It provides schools with everything it needs to teach digital skills: teacher training, teaching materials, and ongoing support of an expert team. Teachease training and contents and their implementation scheme are always tailored to the needs and vision of the individual school.

“We are at the very beginning in introducing coding in our school, so there is nervousness and anxiety, but we are excited about the way forward and we are confident that we will make it.”

Ridwan Samodien πŸ’¬

Principal, Kannemeyer Primary School

At Kannemeyer, teachers will be starting with the 21st century coding pedagogy course which introduces and covers the key pedagogical principles for maximising student learning and engagement through collaboration and creativity. It is the foundation for all our other modules.

πŸš€ Forward with confidence

The school’s plan starts with two modules: Everyday CT and Code & Create. They enable teachers to teach their students computational thinking with unplugged activities and also by coding. The last module of the three year plan for Kannemeyer school is Automate, an introductory robotics course for beginner programmers.

“I want to thank Code School Finland for reaching out to Kannemeyer all the way across the globe.”
