Learning leadership and accountability by solving customer problems

May 25, 2022, Code School Finland

8th grade students from the HELP International School (HIS) in Malaysia have shared their experiences after studying a Code School Finland course with their computer science teacher Dr. Riady Siswoyo Jo.

The course took students through solving challenges with Python programming language. Succeeding required leadership skills, presentation and customer management skills and created a sense of accountability towards their teams.

Here we share some results and student comments. We show how they came up with fantastic solutions to their (fictional) customer cases. Thank you Vignesh, Kai, Jake, Cayden, Sumin, Hui Jin and Jessica!

Feedback after the course

Positive attitude towards coding: 4.1/5

Self-evaluation of coding skills: 72% thinks ‘great’ or ‘excellent’

Interest in programming field increased 29% on average.

Student comments

“I’ve learnt a lot of Python in a short period of time efficiently.“

“The lessons will make me tempted to try the program at home by myself.”

“I can help and explain to my friend how to combine different data types“

“The amount of work and leadership actions was shared equally between my group“

“This course provides a more hands on experience and is much more specific [than my normal courses]“

Student projects

During the course, students worked in small teams to solve a fictional B2B customer’s challenges.

Video 1:36 min showcases a few project works.
