August 2023 – Mpumalanga Province, South Africa
Code School Finland works together with West Cape based Edunova to bring coding education to the disadvantaged communities of South Africa.
Edunova, a non-profit in the education sector in South Africa focuses on enabling effective use of ICT technologies in schools, participated in Code School Finland’s instructor training to run coding courses in local schools.
Edunova’s instructors were trained to teach a beginner coding project for students of all ages. Code a Story course module empowers learners to transfer their storytelling capabilities in the digital world. The course demonstrates how coding skills can be applied to real-world activities. Beginners start with simple stories and gradually incorporate more advanced functionality in their programs as they gain confidence and experience. The learners practice planning, organising and drawing attention to details. These soft skills are transferable to many other areas of life and learning. And above all, it is a lot of fun to come up with your own stories and watch the stories of others.
“I now have a bigger picture and I can be able to see that I can actually do much better and differently with my limited knowledge in teaching coding. Thanks🙏”
